In The Laboratories Of The Advanced

Mr_Lamppost While I don't go for all WOAA releases the sentiment and imagery; (Do the two girls in the second quadrant make anyone else think of The Shining?), made this a must.

The image and idea of Trump zombies, "Trumpbies"? had a certain appeal and should have made this my favourite track but No Man's United States captured the bleakness of this album. Favorite track: No Man's United States.

lei Great drones; and some lovely, calming drifting ambient tones as well. Favorite track: No Man's United States.

Hal Rollason Not as deep as some WoaA and therefore it is not quite as otherworldly as i expected. I think i need to give this a few more listens before i make up my mind. Update!! I have pretty good speakers but i've been persuaded to listen to this album on headphones. Where did all that extra depth and structure come from? I've then been switching directy between speakers and headphone, ignore what i said about lack of depth, it's there, as is the milky way spiralling slowly outside the starboard window.

about

In the laboratories of the advanced,
Where time is but a tool,
And matter is but clay,
They experiment with the unknown.

They create new lifeforms,
With strange and wondrous powers,
And they watch to see what will unfold.

Some of these experiments are successful,
And the new lifeforms thrive.
Others are failures,
And the new lifeforms are destroyed.

But the advanced are not deterred.
They continue to experiment,
In search of new knowledge and understanding.
In the never-ending quest
To understand the mysteries of life.

They came from a distant star,
A race of beings far more advanced than us.
They brought with them knowledge and technology
That we could only dream of.

They offered to help us,
To share their wisdom and power.
But we were afraid.
We didn't trust them.

We thought they would take over our world,
That they would enslave us.
So we rejected their help.

And they left.
They went back to their own star,
And we were left to our own devices.

But I wonder,
What would have happened if we had accepted their help?
Would we be a better species today?
Would we have solved the problems that plague us?

I see the homeless on the streets,
And the addicts in the parks,
And the children who are hungry,
And the families that are broken.

I see the war on drugs,
That's only made things worse,
And the prison-industrial complex,
That's making a fortune off of our pain.

I see the rich getting richer,
And the poor getting poorer,
And the gap between them growing wider,
Every day that passes by.

So tell me, where is this land of freedom?
I don't see it anywhere.
All I see is a country that's broken,
And a people who are in despair.

Land of the free, they say,
Yet they lock us up and throw away
The key.

Land of the brave, they say,
Yet they shoot us down and take away
Our lives.

Land of opportunity, they say,
Yet we're stuck in poverty and pay
The price.

Land of the dream, they say,
Yet we're living in a nightmare and they
Won't wake us up.

Land of the free, they say,
But we're not free.

We're trapped in a system that's designed
To keep us down.

We're not free to live our lives the way
We want to live.

We're not free to speak our minds.

We're not free to protest.

We're not free to be ourselves.

So tell me again,
How is this the land of the free?

This is a land of oppression,
A land of inequality,
A land where the few have all the power
And the rest of us are just pawns in their game.

I don't know where the real land of freedom is,
But it's not here.

Not in this country,
Not in this world.
Perhaps
In the laboratories
or the sick fantasies
of the advanced few...

about

Wings Of An Angel Israel

My own identity feels like a construct, a collection of roles and personas worn like so many masks. Who am I, really?

Perhaps in the end, we are all just characters in someone else's novel, puppets dancing on strings we cannot see.
